Description

The path leads from the "Dicker Baum" hiking car park along the Brexbach over a narrow "Raubritterpfad" above the Grenzau district. Grenzau Castle (open from April to September on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 11 AM to 1 PM. Information is available at Tel. 02624-5200), the Kaiserstuhl, and the Osters Mill are just some stops worth taking a break at. Especially on the return walk through the Grenzau district, you will find numerous artworks along the Grenzau theme path, equipped with explanatory information boards by the interest group.

Every year on the second Sunday in August, a craft market takes place here at the foot of the castle. You can find information about it at www.kannenbaeckerland.de.

Directions

The path leads from the "Dicker Baum" hiking car park a few meters along the street to the former Grenzau station. After crossing the tracks (currently no train runs on the line), it goes left onto a hiking trail towards the center of Grenzau. After about one kilometer, you climb steeply up a narrow path on the right and hike above the district and the Hotel Zugbrücke Grenzau complex on the Raubritterpfad to the Grenzau cemetery. Here you go right on an asphalted street a few meters uphill. In the right curve, you walk straight ahead to Grenzau Castle, which towers on the left above it.

Now you are on a beautiful forest path, which you now follow for a long time. After about one kilometer in a slight right curve, there is the "Kaiserstuhl." It is a great viewpoint with a bench. From there you can look over the magnificent Brexbach valley.

After about a good kilometer, the path widens, and you turn left in the curve area and follow the path downhill. Straight ahead it goes up to Nauort/Alsbach. Now you can "recover" and follow the path for about 1.5 km. Then turn left onto a narrow path that continues downhill towards the tracks and Brexbach. You cross both and come up to a path above. You follow this to the left back towards Grenzau. After about one kilometer, you pass the former Osters Mill, which is now used as a private house. After another 400 m, which you simply continue to hike, you reach the idyllic Grenzau district. Here you follow the street. It leads past the 4-star superior Hotel Zugbrücke Grenzau complex. From there it is about 1,000 meters, and you are back at the starting point of the circular path.

Safety instructions

Wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects you from cold and wet or heat and sun. Please wear appropriate hiking boots for the path that provide sufficient support even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths. Take enough fluids with you; there are not refreshment options everywhere. Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can cover uneven spots, roots, stones, or holes in the path. You should expect path impairments of this kind when hiking. Although the path is very well marked throughout, for safety reasons you should always carry a suitable hiking map.

Equipment

This is a path with a medium level of difficulty, which can be easily walked with sturdy footwear.

Tips

Take a few minutes and enjoy the magnificent view over the Brexbach valley at the Kaiserstuhl.
